Thinking of the most beautiful islands and beaches in Southeast Asia for this summer trip, you cannot miss Phuket Island, Thailand. Phuket Island with unbelievable blue beaches, abundant nature, and dozens of the most luxurious resorts are worth a short summer vacation. If you have put Phuket in sight, it is impossible not to see the travel guide on the island, and from Phuket airport to the city center (Phuket Town).
There is only one airport in Phuket, the Phuket International Airport, located 30 km north of the town of Phuket. Most beaches and resorts in Phuket are located on the East and West coasts. So you will go a distance of about 30-45 minutes to the resorts in the beach area of Bang Tao, Kamala, Karon, Surin, Patong. If you are on the southern side of Phuket Island such as Ra Wai, Yanui, Ao Yon Beach, you have to travel a longer distance, it may take 1 – 1 hour 30 minutes. Refer to the distance and time from Phuket airport to the main beaches:
- to Mai Khao: 8 km, 18 minutes
- to Bangtao: 21 km, 29 minutes
- to Surin: 23.3 km, 29 minutes

And now let’s get to the main point, how do you get from Phuket International Airport to the center of the island?
This is the most common way that everyone chooses, because traveling by taxi is simple and comfortable. After a long journey with loads of luggage, you no longer have the strength to rake or transfer all stations, but just want to climb a taxi smoothly to the center of the city.
From Phuket International Airport, it takes you about 30-45 minutes to take a taxi depending on the area you come. The fare for the 45 minute journey will be about 800 baht ($30). If you go to more remote areas on the south side of the island, the rates will be quite expensive. Note that taxis in Phuket often see red, yellow.
Traveling by taxi is fine for free. However, due to the segment from the airport to the center of Phuket, the taxi fare is quite expensive, which not everyone can accept.
Advantages: comfortable, fast, convenient, no stops
- Minus point: expensive
If you want to save the most, there is another not bad way to travel by bus. Phuket Airport provides a bus network to Phuket town. The buses that run from the airport to the central Phuket Island route are orange and have the word “Airport Bus” in front and behind the vehicle.
Under normal traffic conditions, the bus time from the airport to Phuket town is about 1 hour and 30 minutes, including the time of entry and exit, stopping at the stations. Buses in Phuket operate from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. You should note the operating time and the time of the trips to avoid missing them.
- Arrive at the airport at 07:00, 08:00, 10:30, 13:00, 14:30, 16:30, 18:30.
- From the airport at 09:00, 10:30, 12:00, 14:30, 16:00, 18:30, 20:00
Tickets for Phuket airport bus cost 115 baht ($5) / person / way, can be purchased directly from the driver. The only accepted payment method is cash.
When you get to the airport, ask the airport staff for directions to the bus stop.
- Plus point: cheap, comfortable
- Minus Point: many stops, takes time
3. Mini Bus
A small bus is also a way to save money. At Phuket International Airport, you can find small buses (such as 9 -16 seats) with many people. The bus has air conditioning, comfortable seats and the price is also very reasonable at only about 200 baht / person. (equivalent to $7 / person).
However, taking the same small bus will take you quite a bit of time to the hotel because the bus waits for enough passengers to leave, and also stops pouring at many points to pay other. If you want to save money but still prefer comfort, a small bus from the airport is a reasonable choice.
- The plus point: the number of people is small, comfortable, reasonably priced
- Minus point: many stops, takes time
4. Airport shuttle
Airport Transfer service for you to book schedules, pick-up time at the airport. Just down the airport there were people and cars waiting. You can also enjoy a private, comfortable space in the car because you do not have to go with anyone, the car takes you to the hotel to rest. Moreover, the used cars are all new high-class cars, spacious and comfortable.
A small note for you Phuket Island resort: transportation, travel around the island is mainly taxis, tuk tuks. You can also use Grab’s service. However, due to some local issues, it is difficult to catch Grab at the Phuket International Airport area.
Hopefully with this the suggestions, you will find suitable transportation when visiting the beautiful island of Phuket, Thailand.
